PROJECT SUMMARY
Reliable partner with high precision machining capabilities
A Swedish company specializing in developing solutions for radiation therapy, radiosurgery, oncology, and neurosurgery, needed a partner with an ISO-certified quality management system to manufacture an advanced neurosurgical equipment to assist in stereotactic surgeries. With an objective to increase outsourcing activities throughout Asia, the company set out to search for a supplier that met this qualification and possessed the fundamental technical knowledge to manufacture the equipment while staying within the company’s projected cost plan.
For this project, access to precision machining was mandatory. The materials used also needed to meet strict standards for durability. After engaging several potential suppliers, the company discovered that many either did not have the advanced machining required for creating the desired product or lacked the necessary medical quality system at the document level. SHL Technologies was the only supplier that met all the criteria.
From high-tech CNC machining, experienced personnel, industry knowledge in medical devices, a strategic location in Taiwan, an established ISO 13485 quality management system, excellent track record, and a cost-effective solution, SHL Technologies proved to have the indispensable expertise and production capabilities needed by the company.
Quality without compromise
To ensure consistent product quality, a thorough technology transfer was essential. SHL Technologies worked closely with the company to establish the necessary manufacturing techniques and systems to ensure seamless project development. Technology transfer took place through numerous mutual visits that started with the product’s first article report and approval by the customer. Afterwards, SHL Technologies’ in-house experts mapped out the required capabilities and equipment for mass production. Continuous follow-up visits by engineers, quality department, and logistics personnel created a framework of collective collaboration that contributed to the success of the project.
SHL Technologies also successfully helped the company to tackle early challenges such as defining the tight tolerance machining techniques and maintaining consistent accuracy after surface treatment (anodizing).
Today, as a long-trusted partner, SHL Technologies continues to deliver quality products to the highest standards that meet the customer’s expectations. Thanks to this collaboration, the precise neurosurgical equipment has been in mass production since 2009 and is now in its second generation. By leveraging an improved CNC machining, SHL Technologies enhanced the thickness of the protective layer to increase the durability of the equipment. The project also serves as further validation of SHL Technologies’ continual dedication to deliver refined solutions to our customers.
